Dakota is a four-and-a-half-year-old Great Dane with a gentle heart and a family who loves her deeply. When her owner was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), their lives changed overnight. She underwent an allogeneic stem cell transplant and was required to remain in Philadelphia for at least 100 days following the procedure for intensive monitoring, clinic visits, and recovery care. Her spouse needed to stay by her side as her full-time caregiver, leaving their home and normal routines behind.

In the midst of an already overwhelming medical crisis, the family faced another urgent concern: ensuring Dakota would continue receiving the care and stability she deserved while they were temporarily away.
During this period, Dakota stayed at Greenbrier Grooming & Pet Resort in Dornsife, PA, where she received consistent care, attention, and a familiar routine. SAFE helped fund four of her boarding reservations, easing the financial strain and allowing her family to remain focused on treatment and recovery while knowing Dakota was safe and well cared for.
Because of that support, Dakota’s family never had to choose between life-saving medical care and the well-being of their beloved dog. SAFE was proud to stand alongside them during this chapter, helping preserve the bond that makes pets family — even in the most difficult moments.
