Founders Story

Supporting Animals in Family Emergencies (SAFE) was founded in 2025 by 15-year-old Blake Rothermel while working at his family’s dog kennel. Through his work, Blake saw firsthand how challenging it could be for families to cover pet boarding costs during unexpected crises like medical emergencies. He believed no one should have to worry about their pet’s care and safety during such difficult times. SAFE was created to offer financial assistance for boarding, helping families focus on what matters most while knowing their pets are in good hands.

Mission

Dedicated to supporting families in crisis by providing financial support for pet boarding costs. We believe that no family should have to choose between their safety and the well-being of their animal companions. Our mission is to ensure that every pet receives the love and care they deserve during difficult times, allowing families to focus on rebuilding their lives. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of both humans and animals, creating a community of compassion and support.

Blake Rothermel

Blake Rothermel founded SAFE at age 15 after witnessing firsthand the challenges families faced during medical crises while working at his family’s dog boarding facility. As Assistant Manager at Greenbrier Grooming & Pet Resort, he regularly saw how emergencies could leave pet owners struggling to secure safe care for their animals. Motivated to protect the bond between families and their pets, Blake created SAFE to provide boarding assistance during times of crisis. He continues to lead the organization with a strong commitment to animal welfare, community support, and compassionate care.

Ceirra Ziegler

Ceirra Zeigler is a nationally recognized dog trainer and competitive disc dog athlete from central Pennsylvania who has been involved in dog sports since the age of seven. She holds three first-place world records and won a Skyhoundz World Championship title in 2024 with her dog, Swish. Ceirra runs CS Disc Dogs, where she provides training and promotes canine health through sport and education. She plays an active role in supporting SAFE’s mission and helps advance the organization’s work for families and their animals.

Courtney Hendershot

Courtney Hendershot is the Facility Manager at Greenbrier Grooming & Pet Resort and serves as SAFE’s adult advisor. With hands-on experience managing daily operations and animal care, she provides guidance and support to ensure SAFE runs smoothly and responsibly. Courtney assists the organization whenever needed, helping bridge professional kennel experience with SAFE’s mission. Her leadership and dedication to animal welfare make her a trusted mentor and vital part of the team.
